Help! Need advice please!!

Okay it looks like all of our years of hard work are about to pay off as we are hoping to book our flights to Canada for next week. (If all goes well!) It's really exciting and there is a lot to do but at one point I realised that we were going to be stuck on a plane with a 2 year old for at least 9 hours! YIKES!!!!!!!

So I'm begging for any suggestions anyone has to keep a toddler busy in a confined space. We also don't have a lot of carry on space.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. : )

Activity kits!!! We used them when we traveled for a total of 22 hours recently. Here's my post about the ones I made: http://countingcoconuts.blogspot.com/2009/09/activity-kits.html
Good luck!!

I guess it depends on what she likes, my little ones love to be read to. Audio books are great.
Here are some things we have done...wrap tiny gifts to open whenever she needs distraction, I spy bag, favorite snacks, and tiny toys.
I hope you get more ideas, 9 hours is a long time for anyone, especially a little one!
We may just have to meet up sometime now that you will be back in Canada!

Here is a link to one I created for a long road trip. There is also a company that sells Busy Kits.

Maybe with all the other ideas you get, you will find ideas that work for you and your kiddo.

For a recent plane ride with my two girls (about 4.5 hrs long) I made them each a felt travel activity book. All the pages offered a different activity but most pieces were attached to the book or if not they had a special pocket to live in when not in use. One of the pages was a felt castle scene with a prince and princess. The castle itself was a pocket to hold the loose pieces and there was a dragon and a horse attached to the book on a line that they could move along. There was also a fabric swatch matching page, a braiding/weaving page, a mix and match parts of the face, and I sewed in one of those magnetic hairstyle games, etc. Anything could really be added. The girls now keep them in the car and still use them every day.

Finger foods to keep her hands and mouth busy!
And organise some activities in little ziploc bags: like stickers and paper, mini playdough, colorings, jigsaws, string activity...
Try to find some new stuffs that she had never play with before!

Wow you have been given some great ideas! My only idea is don't - which of course I don't mean because it will be an amazing trip! Personally I can barely control my own boredom on a plane so would never try to take a toddler .. but I will look forward to your tips and experience!!!

We bring one book, a small pad of paper, crayons or markers, preferably brand new ones, stickers, lacing buttons (but be prepared to lose a few on the airplane!) and lots of cheerios and raisins when we fly. She likes to look through the magazine in the seat pocket and we describe every picture so it takes up some time. We play I Spy with those magazine pictures too. You can ask her to look for letters in the magazine too. We played tic tac toe on the pad of paper and made up silly drawing stories. We sang a lot of nursery rhymes and finger rhymes too (but not very loudly!)

I wrote a post about this here:
